The 3rd Annual Punjabi Heritage Festival took place on Saturday, August 28, 2004 with over
2,000 people in attendance. The festival was attended by local and state politicians
including State Senator Michael J. Machado and California State Assemblywoman
Lois Wolk.
The evening started with a free dinner provided for everyone and an art
exhibition by artist Jarnail Singh from Canada. Two groups of American
born youth performed the popular punjabi folk dance called Bhangra and
a group of girls performed traditional Giddha (ladies folk dance). A
keynote speech was given by Professor Emeritus Dr. Noel Q. King, from the
University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Jasbir Singh Kang, of Yuba City, presented
a slide show "Sikhs In America - A Century of Challenges and Successes". The evening
ended with Sukshinder Shinda, a producer, composer, and singer from the U.K., singing
various Punjabi melodies.
The Punjabi-American Cultural Association would like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers,
participants, and visitors of this year's festival for their tremendous support and
participation!
